psychosomatic

i have reason to believe that my backpain is some kinda psychosomatic reaction to volleyball practices. like i said in previous blogs. back pain was gone for the weekend tournie - which by the way - we ROCKED!! monday's practice was cancelled due to need for the team to rest. then comes wednesday. woke up in the morning. BAM - backpain reenters my life. it's not the same kind of pain. it's sharp and shoots down to my knee. was bearable during the day. but when practice time comes around i can barely move. i pop more pills. doesn't make a difference. this morning i wake up. it's better. right now i don't feel it unless i stretch.

gona see the doc tomorrow. mebbe she'll give me more pills. or mebbe she'll refer me to a PT. wooo fun! first rehab experience for me. does OHIP cover massage therapy? =P

Random Update

1. Back Pain - Pretty much gone. Still sore from long day of vball. Thanks to God and the power of healing prayer/authoritative prayer. Miracles happen - u know when u live one.

2. Volleyball Tournament - Swept all 4 games. After the frustrations and struggles with competitiveness, after a request for harder practices, after lots of prayer for my back we finally pulled through in intensity, heart, and drive for the game. feels so good to win. Love the sport.

3. Head Injury – Almost knocked myself out playing vball. It was all in slow motion, but was so fast in real life. Ran full speed to get to a pass. Desperately set it up while backing up. Stepped on a mat. Tripped over side of the pole. Fell backwards towards the score table. The back of my head was for sure goin to hit the table. Kept telling myself – chin to chest, tuck your head in, ahhhh. Somehow missed the table and rolled under. My head was all the way under. My legs flipped up and hit the edge of the table (nice purple bruise!).
:: I’m convinced God saved me – it was physically not possible for me to miss the table and roll under. I was falling downwards not sliding under. At that speed directed at the inferior posterior part of my head (where the skull is the softest) it woulda been at LEAST a major concussion ::

4. Too many papers - Still truckin along. So much reading. Lots of books (probably 20 or so) strewn all over my room = messy. Havin trouble enjoying the reading too much again. Must start writing soon. ~ 33 pages in less than 3 weeks.

5. FAT Club – Indian Buffet. Nice. Can’t wait.

6. Happily Ever After? - "happy"= mmhmm! that hasn't changed. "ever after"= not quite yet. Very excited about friends' getting the "happily ever after" label!!!!! Woo!

drug testing

i feel like an old lady. i can't even bend to spit when i'm brushing my teeth. i gotta put my hands on my knees for support everytime i go to sit. it hurts to stand up tall. it hurts to sit up straight. it hurts to walk let alone run. it hurts to play volleyball.
+
volleyball tournament on saturday
second tournie of the year. must win against rival team at all cost. spandex is my friend. setter always gets second ball. i'm the setter.
=
drug testing today and tomorrow
robaxacet, advil, aspirin, tylenol, motrin - you name it, i have it. the testing begins. ibuprofen or NSAID... must find the best drug to ease the pain. must be the setter. must win.
being an athlete isn't just all fun and games. when an athlete commits to playing a sport it is not jus a duty to go to practices and an obligation to play hard. it is not just trying your best and being satisfied with whatever the outcome. it is not even for the sake of the team. it is a love of the sport - be it volleyball, basketball, footbal...whatever. the athlete loves the sport. plays hard for the beauty of the sport. commits to practicing and drills to enjoy the sport. unites with teammates to add flavour to the sport.

ICQ?!?!

today, i was trying to log onto my QCARD account (Queen's student account). i kept entering in what i thought was my student number and password. i KNEW my password was right and i kept re-typing it over and over. "what da heck! - don't tell me they already deleted me from the system" i kept trying.

then i realized.
2-5-4-1-4-3-2-6 ... THAT'S NOT MY STUDENT NUMBER!!!... ICQ? WHAT?!?!

for some crazy reason - probly due to some subconscious urge to chat with ppl on-line in light of my MSN-fast - my fingers automatically entered in my ICQ #. I DON'T EVEN USE ICQ ANYMORE!! WEIRD!

don't laugh - it was SO scary!

it's a nice day out - i decided to collect some pretty leaves for my spiritual formation class (ask me bout the leaf story sometime - life changing!) so with a shoebox in hand, i went for a walk down through the ravine/bike trails area by my house.

I'm walking... i'm looking around... i'm stooping to pick leaves.
A couple of High School guys came walking through the paths - they probably thought i was some crazy lady wandering the ravine. It was quiet and calm. I thought *hey mebbe i could go on silent retreats by myself in this place, it's so peaceful* I stooped down to get another leaf. when i straighted back up, i looked down the path.

SUDDENLY

there was this brownish black tuft of fur waddling just over the little hill TOWARDS ME! i looked again. my eyes weren't lying... there it was and it was coming closer!! I froze for a second and thought - AHHH THAT WOLVERINE IS GONA GET ME AND I'M TOO DEEP INTO THE TREES FOR ANYONE TO HELP -

(here's a tidbit on Wolverines)
The wolverine is the largest member of the family Mustelidae, though its appearance is bear-like. The wolverine is a heavily built animal, immensely strong for its size and capable of killing animals larger than itself. Known for their feistiness, members of the mustelidae family are often known as fearless.

(see why i was freaking out?)

so i took off running back down the path where i came from - all clad in my birks and vest - racing away from this beast! the leaves in the shoebox flew into my face and were left behind -

i didn't care.

i didn't wanna die.

i'm too young to die.

i looked back. it was still coming. i was like - it better not have seen me and be chasing after me - i looked back again. ...... waaaaaaaait a seeeecond ..... there's a lady walking over there .... WHAT?! A DOG!? a GERMAN SHEPHERD!?!

it was a german shepherd. now in my defense... it wasn't jus some cutesy little puppy dog figure.

it was a pretty big dog. and german shepherds can be scary sometimes too. ya no ppl use them as guard dogs, for REALS!

LOOK HOW SCARY THAT DOG IS!!!

i've gota say...

walking around the ravine by my house will no longer be a time of quiet and solitude - i'll need a walking buddy... any takers?

the consequences of being friends with phoebe yeung

facebook shall not be my home

sitting here... i dun even know where i am...
where am i, phoebe?

phoebe says, "where are you... i duno...hehehe ... we're lost... mmemmehee"
(ppl in this computer lab are staring at us like we're weirdos... see this is why U of T is no fun. they jus don't know how to have fun in computer labs."
*phoebe laughs uncontrollably*

so here's the story.
i got on the TTC to come downtown to go on a date with this miss yeung. and she brings me to this computer lab where you have to get in using a card beeping thing. we get on the computer and she types in: facebook.com. dun dun dun...
so to make this story shorter than it already is. we couldn't get the confirmation email that would make me a real member of the facebook "i'm so cool" club.
*phoebe's cheeks hurt from smiling too much while trying to refrain from laughing out loud*

so i shall repeat with confidence

FACEBOOK SHALL NOT BE MY HOME

though, phoebe's home was my home for a while.

this dragon fruit became the symbol of happiness for ages to come

silence

does it take 5 hours of silence to recognize the beauty of the earth?

in the stillness of creation
in the vastness of the skies

rushing river waters
falling flakes of snow
salmon swimming upstream
deer grazing afar
ducks diving here and there
birds swooping with no care

"ask and you will receive
seek and you will find"
"Be still, and know that I am God"
(psalm 46:10)
